BSQUARE SDIO Now! Solutions Gain Market Strength From New Licensees Toshiba and Seiko Instruments; BSQUARE Showcases SDIO Now! Solutions at CTIA Wireless 2003
"Membership in the BSQUARE(R) SDIO Now! program helps us ensure that we can target the world's smallest SD card type PHS terminal for a wide range of SDIO-equipped Pocket PCs," said Toru Ariga, General Manager for Seiko Instruments. "Our company saved significant development time and cost by leveraging BSQUARE's SDIO Now! architecture, the proven SDIO software solutions for devices running on Windows Powered Pocket PC software."
SDIO Now!-enabled Pocket PC powered devices featured in the Showcase include: Samsung's i700 Pocket PC Phone Edition and HP's iPAQ 39xx Series Pocket PCs. Among the large number of SDIO peripherals, BSQUARE is showing Seiko Instruments' AH-S101S PHS Wireless Terminal; Wireless LAN (802.11b - WiFi) SDIO Cards from Socket Communications and SyChip; and a SDIO Now!-enabled Camera from Hanvit IT. Bluetooth solutions from Socket Communications and Toshiba are also being highlighted by BSQUARE during the event.
"The number of SDIO Now! licensees demonstrates the success of BSQUARE's SD/SDIO technology program," said Bill Baxter, President and CEO of BSQUARE. "SDIO Now! satisfies OEM demand for SD/SDIO functionality that can be quickly and easily added to Windows Powered mobile devices, such as Pocket PCs and Smartphones, to meet narrow time-to-market windows."
"BSQUARE's SDIO Now! program has quickened the pace of adoption of Secure Digital technology because it helps ensure interoperability across various products from different vendors," said Howard Gefen, director for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "The new Windows Powered Pocket PC products from Samsung and HP are great examples of how SDIO Now! technology can be utilized to expand functionality and offer our mutual customers new mobile-friendly peripheral and accessory options."
BSQUARE designed the SDIO Now! program to help manufacturers of chipsets, portable devices, card host controllers, and peripherals support the popular SD and SDIO standards on Windows Powered devices. The program provides companies with a common development platform, eliminating the need for vendors to write individual drivers for each device. With a standard driver architecture and APIs, vendors can feel confident that their products will be compatible with various devices regardless of the choice of SD host controller or platform architecture.
